The Sculptor
Ričards Plinta
KAILA is the life-casting practice of Ričards Plinta, a sculptor and, by his own description, a handyman. In this atelier the two are one trade.
Every piece in the catalogue passed through the same hands: the mould taken from a living body, the cast pulled and cured, the surface sanded, painted, gilded or left bare, the crate built. Nothing is outsourced. When a month in the calendar is full, it is because these hands are.
“What you place in your room was, for a few minutes, someone’s actual skin.”
The work is shown the way it is made, process first: moulds, pours, patinas, the studio as it actually looks.
